University-Wide Pre-Departure Orientation Session for students going abroad in Summer or Fall 2012

Who should attend?

Students traveling outside Canada for University-related bilateral exchanges, internships, independent study-away, graduate work, undergraduate research and/or other such activities during Summer or Fall 2012 who have not previously attended Pre-Departure Orientation.

Topics covered at the session include:

  • Canadian Consular Services (Travel Reports from the Department of Foreign Affairs);
  • Personal health abroad, including healthy travel tips;
  • McGill University-Related Travel Guidelines;
  • Managing your success abroad; and
  • Travel Registry - all students participating in a University-related international activity (i.e., exchange, study-away, internship, graduate work or undergraduate research, etc) are required to register their travel on Minerva www.mcgill.ca/students/international/registry/

The McGill University-Related Travel Guidelines require all students participating in a University-related international travel activity to attend Pre-Departure Orientation.

Note: Graduate students travelling to attend international conferences or formally organized workshops in countries listed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT - http://www.voyage.gc.ca/index-eng.asp) at Level-1 (Exercise normal security precautions) or Level-2 (Exercise a high degree of caution) are not required to attend Pre-Departure Orientation but are required to complete a Travel Registry form on Minerva for all travel activities.
