Wednesday, March 20, 2013 12:15to13:15
Sherbrooke 688 Room 1041, 688 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 3R1, CA

As part of Disabilities Awareness Week, Human Resources/Health and Wellbeing is pleased to present “Understanding Mental Illness and Fighting Stigma” with Dr. Camillo Zacchia, Psychologist – Senior advisor, Mental Health Education Office (MHEO), Douglas Institute.

According to medical experts, one in five of us will experience some form of mental illness during their lifetime, and almost all of us will be affected by it through family, friends or colleagues.  Those diagnosed with a mental health problem are frequently stigmatized and often become segregated.  Dr. Camillo Zacchia will present a brief overview of depression, anxiety and other psychiatric conditions and will discuss how public perception can be altered through an awareness of human nature and how we interact with each other.

The purpose of this event is to create an awareness of the signs of mental illness and how it can affect us all, and to understand how we can change our attitudes and perceptions towards it.

You can check out Dr. Zacchia's blog "Psychospeak" at http://blog.douglas.qc.ca/psychospeak/category/mental-health/
