Terah against Terror : A Talk by Flora Terah

Tuesday, February 16, 2010 12:30to14:00
Chancellor Day Hall 3644 rue Peel, Montreal, QC, H3A 1W9, CA

Flora Terah is a community advocate who ran for Parliament in the Kenyan election in 2007. When she was identified as one of the lead 25 women in the polls, she was attacked and tortured by three men near her home, as they repeatedly told her to renounce her candidacy. Hospitalized and ill, she lost her bid for election. Her only child was murdered in related violence.

She has toured Canada to promote awareness of violence against women, and what women like her face when they seek to challenge established political structures.

Flora is committed to telling her story - she has started an NGO called "Terah against Terror" (http://xterror.org). Because of recent threats against her life she has received asylum in Canada.

Flora has recently written a book about her experience, "They Never Broke My Spirit, But They Killed My Only Child".
