Research Exchange Forum: Computers as cognitive tool

Tuesday, April 1, 2008 12:15
Education Building 3700 rue McTavish, Montreal, QC, H3A 1Y2, CA
Co-hosts: Valerie Nesset (PhD candidate, SIS), Dana Salter (PhD student, DISE), Dr. Susanne Lajoie (Chair, ECP). Cognitive theories guide the design of interactive learning environments and tools have been developed that are specific to the goals of instruction. The goal is to nurture problem-solving skills and learning in specific domains of knowledge. The role of the learner and teacher varies according to the design of the computer-based learning environment. The uses of technology in education are boundless and are only as good as the principles that underlie their design, or the teachers who use them with a pedagogical purpose.
