McGill’s Career Planning Service and the McGill Psychology Students' Association are pleased to invite you to our Psychology: Careers Beyond the Couch Panel! It is a wonderful opportunity for you to hear from and network with McGill psychology alumni in fields such as business, law, health, and student affairs! You will learn about careers other than clinical/counselling or research.  Find out ways in which your Psychology degree can be applied and how your undergrad can lead you to a career that is desirable!

SPEAKERS:

Amanda St Jean, B.A. Psychology
Occupational Therapist, Jewish General Hospital

Amanda St-Jean is an Occupational Therapist (OT) working at the Jewish General Hospital.  She has a Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Ottawa (2009) and Masters Degree in OT from McGill (2012). She specializes in Adult Mental Health, and has experience working in both in-patient and out-patient settings. She is passionate about mental health promotion and improving services for patients, and has been a part of Recovery in Action research projects, as well as part of the McGill OT Mentorship program. 


Gabriella Settino
First year McGill Law Student

Gabriella completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and is now in her first year of Law School at McGill.  Throughout her undergraduate degree, she worked as a research assistant in a social psychology lab, where she assisted a graduate student with her work on social media and attitudes. Additionally, she volunteered in a cognitive neuroscience lab at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where she had the privilege of studying abroad last year. She also participated in a summer abroad program in East Sussex, England, during which she took courses on philosophy and post-Impressionist art. Outside of school, she enjoys travelling, art, fashion, and music.


Vanessa Robles, BSc. Psychology
Brand Manager, Footwear, Michael Kors

Vanessa graduated from McGill in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science, Majoring in Psychology with a Minor in International Relations.  She started working for Michael Kors Canada as a Footwear Assistant Brand Manager right after she graduated and has been working there now for a total of 5 years.  About 2 years ago, she was promoted to Brand Manager and is now responsible for managing all Canadian wholesale accounts as well as overseeing the footwear business in MK retail stores.

Having a continual thirst for knowledge, after my graduation from the Bachelor of Science in Psychology at McGill University, I have pursued my education with two post-graduate diplomas in Communications and Human Resources. All my education to date has enabled me to acquire a vast array of experience in diverse fields of work. I have worked as Communications Manager for a short period of time and then as Human Resources Coordinator before landing my current position in student affairs as a Departmental Advisor in Engineering. In addition to this, in order to provide better service to the students, I have also recently completed the CACEE Career Educator Certificate.
