Open Forum on the Future of McGill Research

Monday, October 17, 2011 17:30to19:30
McIntyre Medical Building 3655 promenade Sir William Osler, Montreal, QC, H3G 1Y6, CA

McGill is proud of its standing as a world-class research-intensive university. To ensure that our researchers continue to excel as leading thinkers and innovators, the University is reviewing how it can best support their efforts in the increasingly competitive research arena.

As a result, McGill is developing two documents that will serve as the pillars of our research and educational plans in the coming years. They are the Strategic Research Plan (SRP), led by the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations), and ASAP 2012: Achieving Strategic Academic Priorities, headed by the Office of the Provost.

Now it’s your turn to make your voice heard! Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations) Rose Goldstein and Provost Anthony C. Masi invite faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates to offer their feedback at an Open Forum on how McGill’s research enterprise and priorities will evolve over the next five years.

As part of extensive consultation processes for both documents, VP (RIR) Goldstein and Provost Masi will be on hand to hear your comments and respond to your questions about the SRP and ASAP 2012. They are also interested in better understanding your own views about the future of research at McGill.

This Open Forum will include discussions on how McGill can:

  • Focus resources while continuing to support research excellence wherever it is found;
  • Enhance successful interdisciplinary exchange, education, and research;
  • Encourage faculty, staff, and students to engage in greater community outreach in Quebec, across Canada, and around the world.

This Open Forum is just one of a series of SRP and ASAP 2012 events scheduled for fall 2011, and you are strongly encouraged to come out and be a part of the consultation process. The SRP and ASAP 2012 will guide McGill’s decision making and provide clarity for internal and external stakeholders as the University positions itself to excel in in a changing research and educational landscape.
