Natural Resources Canada Info Session

Thursday, March 12, 2009 16:30to18:30
Brown Student Services 3600 rue McTavish, Montreal, QC, H3A 0G3, CA

At Natural Resources Canada, we don't just think outside the box-we work outside the box. As well as pens, paper and computers, the tools of the trade might include a pick, or a shovel, a GPS and camping gear. And on some days, the closest thing to a colleague might have feathers or fur.
Intrigued? Let's get to know each other a little better during this information session. We’ll start with a short presentation about our projects, followed by a meet and greet of McGill alumni working with us, leaving plenty of time to network. Looking forward to meeting you on March 12th, 2009 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Brown Building at 3600 McTavish, Room 5001 (5th floor).

Sandwiches and beverages will be served.

Making a difference…

We number almost 5,000 strong. Two-thirds work in the National Capital Region and one-third in offices across the country. Here's what some of our science and technology professionals are up to in:

  • Quebec...helping factories integrate processes to save energy, reduce greenhouse gases and lower production costs.

  • Ontario...working on lighter automobile parts made of magnesium to improve fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases.

  • British Columbia...where the mountain pine beetle has ravaged forests...a scientist is studying the effect of climate change on this outbreak, now and in the future.

  • Newfoundland...studying the relationship between climate change and our forests.

  • Alberta...developing ways to clean up mine sites by removing water from oil sands tailings.

  • The Arctic… mapping underwater rock formations with a view to extending Canada's border and securing oil and mineral resources.

*Over half our people work in science and technology. But like any large outfit, we offer careers in policy, finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, communications and the like. So there are plenty of opportunities for graduates in fields of study such as business, humanities and social sciences too.

*You'll find more lab coats and sweaters than suits here. But whatever the look, we all share a passion for the sustainable development of natural resources.
