Michael Petrou, a senior writer at Maclean’s magazine, has covered wars and conflicts across Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. He has previously worked for the CBC, the National Post, the Ottawa Citizen and the BBC World Service. He holds a doctorate in modern history from the University of Oxford. Renegades, his first book, has been described by the Globe and Mail as “painstaking and clear-eyed,” by El Pais in Spain as “beautiful and well documented,” and by Jack Granatstein as “the best and most complete account of Canadians in Spain we are ever likely to get."

Michael Petrou lives in Ottawa with his family.
