McGill Society of Montreal presents "Piaf: Love Conquers All"
The McGill Alumni Association is pleased to invite alumni to attend a Montreal production of the Off- Broadway Hit : PIAF: LOVE CONQUERS ALL, a one woman musical drama with 13 French songs originally performed by Edith Piaf.
By Roger Peace
With Naomi Emmerson as Edith Piaf
And John Gilbert on piano
Presented by Tone Poet Productions
Associate directed and produced by McGill graduate Adam
Blanshay, BA'04, Piaf: Love Conquers All presents the life and
loves of the remarkable French singer who stood only 4'10". Born in
1915 in the streets of Paris in abject poverty, she rose to
international stardom. Her voice is unique and her music reaches
through generations and across oceans.
Though extremely successful, she struggled with morphine addiction
and alcohol abuse. Rheumatism crippled her health, but she never
stopped singing. Through Peace's intimate and touching script Naomi
Emmerson, as Piaf, invites the audience to share a cocktail while
she shares anecdotes of her passion for men, music and morphine.
Some of Piaf's most famous songs "La Vie En Rose", "Milord", "Non,
Je ne Regrette Rien" - are presented in French and are beautifully
supported by live acoustic piano and accordion.
"Emmerson is a revelation...Hypnotic."
