Max Bell Foundation-McGill University Program Information Session
The Max Bell Foundation - McGill University Program is a partnership between McGill and the Max Bell Foundation, a Canadian independent grant making foundation that pursues its mission by supporting Canadian registered charities.
The Foundation was established by its namesake in 1972. Max Bell earned a commerce degree at McGill in 1932, where he also played varsity football and hockey. When he established the Foundation, he stipulated that 30% of all of the Foundation's grants go to McGill University - half to the Faculty of Medicine, and half to other McGill programs. Since 1974, the Foundation has proudly granted over $21 million to McGill in the areas of:
- Health & Wellness
- Education
- The Environment
Senior Program Officers from the Max Bell Foundation will hold an information session on their upcoming call for Letters of Intent for interested McGill faculty from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012. (Location: TBC) Please register by contacting Connie Rosen either by email at connie.rosen [at] mcgill.ca or by telephone at 514-398-2879.
Individual meetings of 30 minutes can also be arranged between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. on March 20 and 21 with Max Bell staff during their visit to McGill. Please contact Connie to schedule a time slot.
Telephone or email queries are welcome at any time. Please contact Anna Birnie-Lefcovitch in the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations). She can be reached by telephone at 514-398-4994 or by email at anna.birnie-lefcovitch [at] mcgill.ca.
The Foundation's mission, program descriptions, and application guidelines are available online at www.maxbell.org.
Projects must be consistent with the academic priorities of the University and with the mission and normal grant giving rules and procedures of the Foundation. A consultative evaluation process of LOIs will take place at McGill, and will help the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations) to rank and recommend LOI submissions to Max Bell. The Foundation will conduct a separate review.
Projects supported by the McGill-Max Bell program range in size and duration. Typical duration is between two to three years, with complete project budgets of between $50,000 and $400,000.
There are now three options for submitting the LOI form, which may be found on the Foundation's website at www.maxbell.org/letter-intent-submission.
Letters of Intent must be submitted jointly to McGill and Max Bell on or before July 31, 2012. Those approved by both institutions will be asked to submit full proposals on or before August 31, 2012.
LOIs should be sent in electronic format simultaneously to McGill's Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations) and to the Max Bell Foundation:
