Médecins Sans Frontières and The Will to Intervene: A Dialogue on Dilemmas and Possible Solutions

Tuesday, February 9, 2010 19:00to21:00
McIntyre Medical Building 3655 promenade Sir William Osler, Montreal, QC, H3G 1Y6, CA

Médecins Sans Frontières has worked in the wars and conflicts of the world for all of its history.  This includes having medical teams in Rwanda during the genocide, in Srebrenica during the 1995 massacre, in the Darfur region of Sudan since 2003 and many others.  In light of this experience and in light of MSF's goal to continue to have medical teams responding to these crisis, what approach should the MSF movement take towards the "Will to Intervene" and the "Responsibility to Protect" reports?  Frank Chalk, co-director of the "Will to Intervene" project, Kyle Matthews, project leader of W2I, and Rony Brauman, president of MSF from 1982 - 1994 and current research director at the "Centre de réflexion sur l'action et les savoirs humanitaires" will discuss this question and others.
