James McGill Society One Hundred and Sixty-First Meeting
With the 1913 removal of the American tariff on newsprint, Pulp and Paper emerged as a major Canadian industry. Following World War I, Cellulose and Polymer Chemistry emerged as strong research areas, supported by the Pulp and Paper Research Institute that opened at McGill in 1927.
Dr. van de Ven is Paprican/NSERC Industrial Research Chair in "Colloid and Papermaking Chemistry" and Director, Pulp and Paper Research Centre
