Interpretation, What is it anyway?

These are but a few of the questions that Marie Savoie, a
Conference Interpreter with the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, will
try to answer. Several aspects of interpretation as a profession
will be discussed: the nature of the work and working conditions in
Canada; working as a staff interpreter or going freelance; market
demand and career opportunities; international organizations that
hire interpreters; the training required; internship positions with
the federal government, professional standards; and pay.
Ms Savoie will also describe an interpreter's typical working day
in the federal government's two interpretation sections:
Parliamentary Interpretation and Conference Interpretation.
Knowledge and skill requirements will be discussed, as well as the
personal aptitudes and qualities needed.
