How 'crude' is Harvard president's calculation?

Friday, March 10, 2006 15:30
Burnside Hall 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 0B9, CA
CRM-ISM-GERAD Seminar: Xiao-Li Meng, Harvard. This lecture will carefully examine Summers' arguments, as well as provide a more refined estimate, showing that Summers' 5:1 estimate is very conservative under his assumptions. This relatively simple estimation problem is an excellent case study to introduce newcomers to the wonderful, and sometimes mysterious, world of statistics, a fundamental discipline for all modern quantitative scientific investigations. Coffee and cookies at 3:00 pm. Reception, with wine and cheese, follows the talk.
