About the Host

Dr. Anita Nowak is the Integrating Director of the Social Economy Initiative (SEI), which aims to integrate social entrepreneurship and social innovation into the Desautels Faulty of Management's teaching, research and outreach activities (www.mcgill.ca/sei). She graduated from McGill with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1997, and completed her PhD in 2011. She is also certified as a Professional and Personal Coach. Anita's doctoral work involved narrative inquiry interviews with social entrepreneurs to inform a concept she calls "Empathic Action." Her dissertation was nominated for the Association of Non-Profit and Social Economy Research (ANSER) Award for the Outstanding Thesis at the Doctoral Level.

Anita Nowak has three interrelated passions: First, through her teaching, writing and public speaking, she aims to inspire individuals to become more socially engaged. Second, in her role at McGill University, she is committed to working with enlightened business leaders and social entrepreneurs to fast-track a vibrant social economy. Third, as a certified coach with professional fundraising experience, she endeavors to help individuals of means develop what she calls their 'Lifetime Legacy Plan.'
