Chancellor Day Hall 3644 rue Peel, Montreal, QC, H3A 1W9, CA
David Armstrong, King's College, London. Every society has its creation story and the dominant one today is that of Darwinian evolution which, through the fossil record, identifies Man's origins tens of thousands of years ago. Alternative stories, however, are possible and this lecture uses textual records in the field of medicine to locate Man's corporal birth (and death) in the mid-19th century and the development of his (and her) subjectivity to late in the 20th century.
