Dr. Lucy Gilbert will give a talk about the McGill University Health Centre’s successful DOVE project (Detecting Ovarian cancer Early).

Every year in Montreal, 350 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Unfortunately in 280 of these women, the diagnosis is made after the cancer has spread from the ovaries, attacked other important organs, and become incurable despite extensive surgery and repeated chemotherapy treatments.

As stage I ovarian cancer is curable by surgery alone in over 90% of the cases, the key to saving lives is to increase the proportion of women diagnosed in stage I. The DOVE team has set up the world’s first ever Rapid Access Diagnostic Center for the early detection of ovarian cancer at the Royal Victoria Hospital.
