Emma Darwin's Cookbook
A staged reading
and Victorian tea inspired by Emma Darwin's original family
recipe book. Long known to scholars, this recipe book dated
1839 from the Darwin family home includes instructions for
boiling rice in Charles Darwin's own handwriting. Performed
by Montreal playwright Colleen Curran and actor Sylvia
Cymbalista, this theatrical presentation is made possible in part
by the Playwrights Guild of Canada via the Canada Council's
Readings Program.
The staged reading starts at 11 AM in the Auditorium of Redpath
Museum, with tea served at 10 AM in the Entrance Hall. Copies
of the book "Mrs. Charles Darwin's Cookbook" will be available
for sale courtesy of Bon Appetit bookstore.
Cost: $5 regular, $3 student/staff/senior. Tickets at door.
