Cognitive-behavioural psychotherapy (CBT) improves outcomes in schizophrenia when added to usual care featuring medication and case management. An increasing number of mental health professionals and patients have discovered for themselves that CBT for schizophrenia is acceptable, safe and gives good results. This lecture will describe CBT for psychosis, and will include the demonstration of specific techniques using role play and DVD clips. All members of the general public are welcome. This talk is of special interest to Individuals struggling with psychotic symptoms and their families and caregivers.

Professor Turkington is a major research figure in the development of CBT for schizophrenia. He has lectured widely throughout Europe and North America. He has written more than 100 articles and co-authore 3 books on CBT for schizophrenia. His CBT self-help book for patients and carers entitled Back to Life, Back to Normality: Cognitive Therapy, Psychosis and Recovery will be published in the summer.

Dr Alison Brabban works as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in a first episode psychosis service in the North of England. She lectures internationally on CBT for psychosis and trains health care staff working with patients with psychosis to deliver Cognitive Therapy and Family Interventions.
