Celebrate Canada's 150th with the C3 expedition

Canada C3 is a Signature Project for Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation in 2017. The centerpiece is an epic 150-day sailing journey from Toronto to Victoria via the Northwest Passage that will celebrate our environment, share the stories of coastal communities and connect Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

For all communications about the C3 boat and up-to-date photos and videos that are free to share with any partners or media: Mireille Sylvester, Équipe de Communications / Communications Team Canada C3

Join us at the Redpath Museum to meet scientists and youth ambassadors from the Canada C3 ship, learn about this amazing voyage of exploration around the three coasts of Canada, and celebrate our marine heritage. All events are family friendly and FREE with donation to the museum. No registration required.

13:30-14: 30:  Meet research scientists, educators and youth ambassadors from the C3 ship. Learn what they are doing on board and how it will affect all Canadians. In the Auditorium.

14:30-15:15. For families (ages 5-9). Join us for a CWF Wild Family Nature Club as we follow the voyage of the Canada C3 boat on a giant floor map made by Canadian Geographic. Outside (weather permitting) or in the Dawson Gallery.

15:00 – Ages 12 and up. Documentary film: Climate on the Edge. Part 4 of Arctic Mission (NFB). This documentary gives scientific context to the controversy and debate on climate change. Accessible interviews with climatologists, glaciologists, astrophysicists and oceanographers, juxtaposed with stunning footage, bring understanding to the impact of the melting of the Arctic permafrost and release of greenhouses gases that affect our whole planet.

Events and activities ongoing all afternoon

- We've selected some very special marine specimens from our collections that aren't usually on display. Check out the narwhal tusk, tiger shark jaw, seal skin, and others! This close examination and handling session will be animated by marine biologist Ingrid Chiraz. Dawson Gallery, 2nd floor.

- Learn about the ground-breaking research on invasive species and microplastic pollution that takes place at the museum. Animated by students in Prof. Tony Ricciardi's Invasive Species research team. Room 106.

- For the younger audience, we have puppets and stories about marine animals with special guest Captain Catalyst. Room 200.
