Broadcast — Cutting Edge Lectures in Science - Inflammation - the fuel of cancer: extinguishing the fire to stop the disease

Saturday, January 15, 2011 14:00to15:00

The Cutting Edge lectures are organized to foster communication between scientists in different disciplines as well as between scientists and the public.

The physiological role of inflammation is to defend our body and restore normalcy. However, when inflammation is deregulated, it is the fuel of cancer growth. This lecture discusses what we have recently learned on the role of our innate immune response in inflammatory diseases and cancer, with a focus on intestinal pathologies. It also looks at the current therapies of inflammatory bowel diseases and colitis-associated cancer and discusses the potential need to revisit them.
