Biomedical Innovation at McGill
There is increasing pressure on PIs to translate research
dollars into concrete results that will have an impact on
therapeutics and health care delivery. However, the
infrastructure and knowledge necessary to move discoveries from the
lab into the clinic or marketplace is fractured and in general, not
well organized. The Faculty of Medicine at McGill recognizes
this and as a result, has asked Prof. Phil Barker to head up a new
unit termed the McGill Centre for Biomedical Innovation
(MCBI). The goal of this new unit is to enhance the
PI’s ability to take their basic research along development routes
that will have a societal impact.
Please join us on May 10th (at 10:30 am in the Charles Martin
Theatre (Room 504) in the McIntyre Building) for an informative
session on various programs and resources available to PIs to aid
in their path from discovery to commercialization.
Presentations will be given by Dr. Natalie Dakers, CEO, The Centre
for Drug Research and Development (CDRD); Dr. Diane Gosselin, Vice
President of Research and Business Development of CQDM; and
Dr. Elizabeth Douville, Vice President, Genechem.
A light lunch will be served afterwards and each of the speakers
will be available to chat. In addition there is the
opportunity to meet with members of the CDRD on May 10th and
11th.
