The Annual Rathlyn Lecture: Disability Studies: Where next?
The endowed Rathlyn Lecture in Disability Studies was established in November 2010. In this the 2nd year of the Rathlyn lecture we are proud to host Colin Barnes, a leading activist and scholar in Disability Studies at Leeds University in the UK.
Dr. Barnes will address the development of disability studies as an internationally recognised academic discipline. His talk will raise important questions about its relevance beyond the academy and the struggle for a more equitable and just society. He will focus on disability studies' fundamental role to play in the quest for a meaningful and just society. A quest that is especially important given the various economic, political and cultural deprivations now experienced by disabled people, their families and other disadvantaged groups in all nation states, due to the various global economic, political and cultural crises.
