Alumni Association of Vancouver presents "12th Annual Vancouver Leacock Luncheon"
Guest of Honour and Speaker Dr. Art Hister
Why is it some people are too embarrassed to talk to their doctor
about unpleasant health problems, but put them on TV or radio and
they’ll share every unseemly detail about that rash that just won’t
go away? Vancouver’s Dr. Art Hister, BSc’68, MDCM’70, has no idea.
What he does know, though, is that anything which makes Canadians
discuss issues related to health and well-being can’t be bad – only
a little gross. Fortunately, he has always had a strong stomach,
which got him through med school at McGill, a groundbreaking stint
with Vancouver’s Pine Free Clinic – the first Canadian health
centre for transient youth – and years of private practice. In
1991, Dr. Hister traded his stethoscope for a microphone, becoming
a full-time “media doctor.” He hosted a national radio show, "House
Calls with Dr. Art Hister"; for 19 years; appears regularly as a
health analyst for Global TV, CKNW and BBC 5, among others; and has
written two bestselling books. He is Canada’s version of Dr. Oz,
without the uncontrollable desire to wear scrubs at all
times.
