Alumni Association of Quebec City presents "400th Anniversary Reception"
Mr. Peter Dunn and the McGill Alumni Association cordially invite you to a cocktail reception in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Quebec City. Please join alumni and friends of McGill University and members of the Morrin Centre for an evening of history and conversation.
Featuring a jazz performance by a McGill jazz quartet and an address by Richard W. Pound, Chancellor of McGill University.
Founded in 1862, Morrin College was Quebec City’s first
English-language institute of higher education. The school was
created by Scotsman Dr. Joseph Morrin, a former mayor and prominent
local physician. Through an affiliation with McGill University,
Morrin College offered general arts degrees and trained pastors for
the Presbyterian Church for four decades.
Remarkably, the College admitted women into its B.A. program from
1885 onward, approximately 20 years before Laval University did the
same. Due to the scarcity of students, classes were co-ed, which
was even more uncommon for the day. A lack of funds and students
forced the College to close in 1902.
