Alumni Association of New York presents "McGill Alumni Join "Hands on New York Day""
Hands on New York Day is an opportunity for NYC residents to
participate in revitalizing the city’s parks, gardens, playgrounds,
community centers, and schools. This year, New York Cares has
partnered with MillionTreesNYC, whose ambitious goal is to plant
and care for one million trees across the city by 2017. During
Hands on New York Day, New York Cares volunteers will plant 20,000
trees to help MillionTreesNYC meet their goal.
Team McGill has been assigned to Hunter Island in the Bronx’s
Pelham Bay Park. At 2,764 acres (11 km²) – more than three times
the size of Central Park – Pelham Bay Park is the largest public
park in New York City. There, Team McGill and other volunteers will
plant up to 1,000 trees over the course of the day. New York Cares
will provide buses to transport us to the site and back.
This event presents a great opportunity to combine volunteer
work with networking. A happy hour will follow the event, allowing
volunteers to interact in a more relaxed social setting.
Work will take place on Hunter Island in Pelham Bay Park, but
volunteers will be bused there from a central point. You will
receive information about that meeting point along with your
confirmation of registration.
