The McGill University Department of English Drama & Theatre program is proud to present Ben Jonson’s comedy The Alchemist playing at Moyse Hall Theatre from March 24-26 and March 31 – April 2, 2011.
The Alchemist is Ben Jonson’s famous, fast-paced comedy about three charismatic con artists who promise to give their gullible victims the secret of turning lead into gold. But on the day they plan to take the money and run, the con men suddenly find they have taken on more than they bargained for, and their house of cards starts to fall apart. The Alchemist is an hilarious and scathing satire about how foolish people can be when promised untold riches in exchange for a “modest capital investment.”
The young and exciting cast includes Mike Ruderman (Subtle), Max Sklar (Drugger), Elena Dugan (Dame Pliant), Chirag Naik (Face), Matthew Banks (Lovewit), Teis Jorgensen (Dapper), Matthew Steen (Surly), Annie MacKay (Neighbour #2), Chloe Texier-Rose (Tribulation Wholesome), Charles Harries (Epicure Mammon), Katie Scharf (Doll Common), Alex Gravenstein (Kastril), CeCe Culver-Grey (Ananias) and Melisa Keogh (Neighbour #1).
The McGill University Department of English Drama & Theatre Program is dedicated to providing students with practical theatrical experience. Costume Design by the Costuming Class under the tutelage of Catherine Bradley, Lighting Design by Jordana Globerman, with set and props construction by the Stage, Scenery and Lighting class under the tutelage of Keith Roche.
