Stéphane Bayen appointed Chair of the Department of Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry
Professor Stéphane Bayen has been appointed as the new Chair of the Department of Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry effective September 1, 2023 until June 30, 2028. Dr. Bayen received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the National University of Singapore in 2005. He came to McGill in 2014 from the Singapore-Delft Water Alliance of the National University of Singapore, where he was a Senior Research Fellow. Dr. Bayen’s research focuses on the analysis of trace chemical contaminants in food and environmental matrices, contaminant-food matrix interactions, human health risk assessment, and food authenticity.
McGill's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences thanks Professor Varoujan Yaylayan for his service as Food Science Chair since 2011. During his tenure as Chair, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Ian Munro Chair in Food Safety, he contributed to the creation of M.Sc. non-thesis programs and new courses, and he led the accreditation of the food science programs. Under his leadership, five new tenure-track staff members were hired.
