Beginning September 14, McGill-affiliated faculty, staff, and students can consult rare materials in a special reading room. This will allow readers to access the collections held by Rare Books and Special Collections, McGill University Archives, and the Osler Library of the History of Medicine.

Located on the main floor of the Redpath Library Building, the consultation space follows governmental and university safety protocols, including enhanced cleaning and disinfection, and socially distanced individual reading tables.

The consultation room has space for three readers on two daily shifts, Monday to Friday. The daily shifts are from 9 am to noon, and from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

To arrange a consultation, or for more information about McGill’s rare and special collections, please email Rarebooks.library [at] mcgill.ca.

Please note:

  • Retrievals require from one to seven days. Same-day requests cannot be accommodated.

  • Not all material can be made accessible.

  • Readers can reserve one or two shifts a week. Additional reservations are dependent upon availability.

  • Only requests from McGill-affiliated individuals can be accepted at this time.
