Presentation on the Macdonald building closures

Dear members of the Macdonald Campus community,

You are invited to register for a presentation by Fabrice Labeau, Co-Acting Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic), Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning) and planning chief for the Emergency Operations Centre.

Professor Labeau will give an interim update about the status of the building closures at Macdonald Campus: where we are and what we know to date. He will provide answers, where information is available, to some of the common questions we are hearing from the Macdonald community.

The interim update will take place Friday, February 17, 2:30–3 p.m. as a Teams webinar.

An external company is currently conducting large-scale testing of dust samples for the presence of asbestos across the closed buildings. Once testing of samples is complete and the information analyzed, the Emergency Operation Centre will host a Town Hall to solicit and answer additional questions from the community.

Testing update:

• Dust samples are being taken in every room at Macdonald-Stewart using the microvac method, with approximately 70 individual samples being collected on each floor.
• Batches of samples are being sent each day to a laboratory in North Carolina for analysis, as it was identified to be the fastest service able to process the volume of samples required.
• As of today, test samples have been gathered for approximately 50% of the Macdonald Stewart building.
• Sampling in the Barton and Raymond buildings has not yet begun.
