IT Services wishes to advise you of the creation of a new McGill Username/Email suffix for affiliates (Non-McGill staff working in association with McGill).

The new suffix, will improve security and IT administrative processes by separating affiliate accounts from student accounts, which currently both follow the McGill Username/Email address format firstname.lastname [at] (or slight variation thereof).

IT Services is raising awareness about the new suffix to ensure that our community recognizes it as a legitimate McGill source. Email scams (phishing) have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic and communications from the new email suffix should not be confused with a fraudulent attempt to gain access to sensitive information. Stay safe online and protect your data by following IT security best practices.

The new suffix will be rolled out in phases:

Phase 1:  New Affiliate accounts

Beginning on July 8, 2020, the McGill Username/Email address for new accounts will have the new format firstname.lastname [at]

Phase 2:  Existing accounts

The migration of existing accounts will begin this Fall. This announcement will be updated with further details as they become available.
