A New Dean for the Desautels Faculty of Management: Professor Isabelle Bajeux-Besnainou
Message from Professor Anthony C. Masi, Provost
I am delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Isabelle Bajeux-Besnainou as the next Dean of the Desautels Faculty of Management, beginning 1 September 2015.
Prof. Bajeux-Besnainou’s appointment was made Tuesday, 28 April 2015 by McGill’s Board of Governors, following the recommendation of a committee that conducted an international search for top candidates.
Prof. Bajeux-Besnainou comes to McGill from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she is currently a Professor in Finance. She has been serving as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs at the George Washington University School of Business since April 2012, and chaired the Finance Department during the 2011-12 academic year.
An alumnus of the École normale supérieure of Paris, Prof. Bajeux-Besnainou earned her doctoral degree in 1989 from the Université Paris-IX in Mathematics Applied to Finance. She taught Finance at the École supérieure des sciences économiques et commerciales de Paris, from 1989 to 1993, at Université de Montréal in the fall of 1993, and has been at George Washington University since 1994.
As Associate Dean, Prof. Bajeux-Besnainou launched several new programs and initiatives, including a new Bachelor of Science degree program with a major in Finance. This degree, implemented in Fall 2013, requires a second major outside of the Business School. A firm believer in the value of interdisciplinarity, she also redesigned the Bachelor of Business Administration curriculum to highlight the liberal arts and require a minor outside of the Business School, effective for all incoming students beginning Fall 2014.
Additionally, Prof. Bajeux-Besnainou redesigned the First Year Development Program for incoming freshmen with additional emphases on integrity, ethics, civility and social entrepreneurship.
Prof. Bajeux-Besnainou has published numerous articles in academic journals such as Management Science, Mathematical Finance, Applied Mathematical Finance, American Economic Review and the Journal of Business, among others.
I am sure you will join me in congratulating Prof. Bajeux-Besnainou on her appointment and wishing her success in her new role at McGill.
Prof. Anthony C. Masi
