Negotiation update: MCLIU (Course Lecturers/Instructors)

Published: 9 July 2019

Since the appointment of a Conciliator from the Ministry of Labour in January 2019, the parties have met eleven times. The meetings enabled MCLIU and McGill negotiation committees to reiterate and clarify their proposals with respect to changes to the current collective agreement. The parties explained their proposals in detail to one another and to the Conciliator and engaged in discussions relative to topics such as Participation and Representation of Employees, Teaching Qualification Requirements, Course Allocation and Hiring of Employees. Some agreements were reached regarding Union representation and the implementation of the new Human Resources Information System. The parties also agreed on the implementation of mechanisms for the exchange of information relative to posted positions and their allocation to individuals on the priority points list of the Hiring Units.

The Conciliator has invited the parties to focus discussions on items that are critical to the achievement of their respective negotiation objectives. The parties are scheduled to resume discussions in early September and weekly thereafter.

This update is meant to inform the community about ongoing negotiations.
