Media Rurality Colloquium on June 16-17

Published: 9 June 2022

The Grierson Research Group and the Department for Art History and Communication Studies present Media Rurality, a two-day public hybrid online/in-person colloquium on June 16-17, 2022, at the Macdonald Campus of McGill University. The event is organized by Dr. Patrick Brodie (FRQSC Postdoctoral Fellow, Communication Studies, McGill University) and Dr. Darin Barney (Grierson Chair in Communication Studies, McGill University).

Media Rurality gathers scholars from across disciplines and sites to confront the central role that rurality plays in media systems and infrastructures. The hybrid colloquium will consist of 12 research presentations by invited participants, along with responses from graduate students across the Montréal research community and beyond. The event is co-organized by Patrick Brodie and Darin Barney, both members of the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill, and supported by the Grierson Research Group, SSHRC, and generous sponsors at McGill.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to livestream the event on YouTube, which will be hosted through the above website.

There are also a limited number of in-person registration slots available on each day. Please email mediarurality.ahcs [at] mcgill.ca with your name, preferred affiliation, and date(s) of planned attendance. Spots will be administered on a first come, first served basis, so please be considerate in your planning to ensure that in-person positions are distributed to those definitely able to attend!

We look forward to seeing you there!
