Matt Haimovitz named inaugural John Cage Fellow at the Mannes School of Music

Published: 23 May 2018

Earlier this year, cellist and Schulich professor Matt Haimovitz was appointed as the first-ever John Cage Fellow at the New School's Mannes School of Music. As part of this artist-in-residence program, Haimovitz will be actively involved in Mannes activities, including acting as an ensemble coach, teaching private lessons, and engaging in joint endeavors with Schulich.

In a New School press release he said, “I am honoured to expand my artistic community and join vibrant colleagues at The New School in nurturing, mentoring, and inspiring the next generation of artists in an ever-challenging cultural environment. With deep roots in our shared history and a bold vision for the future, we embark on a path creating new bridges between the disciplines, between borders, and between the generations."

Hear Haimovitz perform tomorrow evening at Bourgie Hall as part of I Musici de Montreal.
