Published: 11 May 2021

Announced today, the McGill-Douglas – Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry International Collaborative Initiative in Adversity and Mental Health is the first international effort devoted to understanding the biology behind how early-life adversity can increase the risk of psychiatric disorders over the course of an individual’s life.

The initiative brings together top talent from the Douglas Research Centre and Germany’s Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry to investigate the biological causes of mental illness and improve prevention and treatment options available to the public. Led by co-PIs Elisabeth Binder (Max Planck Institute) and Gustavo Turecki (the Douglas), the initiative will also offer opportunities for scientists to conduct join research, training and share resources.

The McGill-Douglas – Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry International Collaborative Initiative in Adversity and Mental Health is jointly funded by McGill University, through Healthy Brains, Healthy Lives, and the Max Planck Society.
