Please be advised that upcoming activities by IT Services later this month may cause a short interruption in Internet service. This work is a prerequisite for the implementation of a more performant network (Internet and research network) and safer computing for the McGill community. Details are in the grid below.
We thank you for your patience and collaboration in supporting this initiative.
|WHAT IS HAPPENING||
IT Services will soon deploy the Internet Edge solution: this is an initiative to direct Internet traffic on the McGill network to our new Next Generation firewalls.
Although our tests demonstrated that this change should be transparent to end users, in a worst-case scenario, there is a potential service interruption of up to 15 minutes on March 22 and March 27 between 5:00 and 7:30 AM, when users will have no Internet access.
There will be no noticeable change on workstations after the work has completed.
|WHO IS AFFECTED||
The entire University (Campus & Residence) will be affected by this potential service outage.
There will be a potential Internet service interruption of 15 minutes maximum on the following dates:
The planned work concerns the implementation of the Internet Edge solution. This initiative will direct Internet traffic on the McGill network through our new Next-Generation firewalls (NGFW): A NGFW is a network security system that is able to detect and block sophisticated attacks by enforcing IT Security policies at multiple levels. This implementation will result in enhanced network performance and security. Should you encounter any issues accessing the Internet or McGill applications following this activity, please contact the IT Service Desk.
