Graduate student concerns regarding building closures

Published: 23 February 2023

Message from Josephine Nalbantoglu, Associate Provost (Graduate Education) & Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Jean-Benoit Charron, Associate Dean (Graduate Education) FAES

Dear Graduate Students,

We understand that the recent closures of the Macdonald-Stewart, Barton and Raymond buildings have had a major effect on your life and progress as graduate students. It’s particularly tough, coming after all the disruptions and unexpected closures in the first few years of COVID.

You are understandably concerned about your progress and your ability to meet deadlines during building closures. Some of you may be able to work remotely on your degree requirements. However, if that isn’t possible, we encourage you to contact us for possible accommodations.

We’ve added a section to the Macdonald building closures FAQs specifically to address your concerns. Be sure to consult them and if needed, reach out to your Graduate Program Director to appraise them of your concerns. If you have academic questions that are not covered there, you can contact jean-benoit.charron [at] mcgill.ca. It is also possible to provide anonymous feedback.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, please consult the resources listed in the FAQ. Professional support is available to all students.

Rest assured that our priority is to support you through this situation.

Warm regards,

Jean-Benoit Charron
