Fall 2021 & winter 2022 special directives & temporary changes for community borrowers

Published: 13 September 2021

All library branches are now open for University business ONLY. The access to physical library spaces, on-site services & collections is limited to current McGill students, faculty, and staff.

As a result, borrowing practices for community members have temporarily changed:

- Alumni: At present, due to on-site access limitations, Alumni members with active McGill Library accounts cannot request new materials or visit library spaces, but can hold on to checked out materials. The materials will be automatically renewed for 30 days unless another Library user places a hold on that item, in which case it must be returned as soon as possible. Please place items in the returns bin on the street level at the McLennan-Redpath Library Complex or Nahum Gelber Law Library. If your alumni account expired recently, but you hope to hold on to checked out materials, please contact your library branch to find out what is possible.

- Recent graduates: All recent graduates should return materials to the Library as soon as possible. Please place items in the returns bin on the street level at the McLennan-Redpath Library Complex or Nahum Gelber Law Library. Recent grads may also mail the books back to the McLennan-Redpath Library Complex (3459 McTavish Street Montreal, Quebec H3A 0C9).

- Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire (BCI) (i.e. faculty and students from Quebec universities & faculty from CEGEPs) must request McGill Library materials through the InterLibrary Loan department at their home institution’s library.

- The materials checked out by other community borrower accounts, such as Personal Paid, Faculty Spouse, or anyone coming from other institutions, will be renewed until October 31, 2021.

Please continue to look for further communications about your checked-out material and accessing the library branches.
