Emeritus Professor Armand de Mestral

It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Armand de Mestral.

In addition to all his other achievements in the main Faculty of Law and beyond, we at the Institute of Air and Space Law remember him for his long association with and support for our institute, most notably for his role as interim director from 1998 to 2000 in succession to Michael Milde before him and before the appointment of Paul Dempsey after him.

Even after his interim directorship ended, he remained active mentoring colleagues and supervising students of the institute. His last illness prevented him from being as active as he and we should have liked.

We are grateful for his generosity with his time and expertise and for his friendly and polite way of interacting with us all. To his widow and family we offer our deepest sympathies. May he rest in peace.
