Canada’s new deal with China garners mixed reaction from Trump administration
Canada’s new trade deal with China will allow up to 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles to be imported each year. That accounts for about 10% of electric vehicle sales in the country.
“Prime Minister Mark Carney has signalled to the Trump administration that it is warming up to China,” says Vivek Astvansh, an Associate Professor of Quantitative Marketing and Analytics at McGill Desautels. So far, reaction from the Trump administration has been mixed. President Donald Trump initially hailed it as a ‘good thing’, while US trade representative called the deal ‘problematic’ and said Canada may come to regret it.
