Call for Proposals: Indo-Pacific Scholarships and Fellowships for Canadians (IPSFC)

Global Affairs Canada has announced a new funding opportunity under the Indo-Pacific Scholarships and Fellowships for Canadians (IPSFC) program. This initiative is designed to strengthen Canada’s academic and research engagement in the Indo-Pacific region by supporting outbound mobility and collaboration.
Each institution is able to submit one proposal. The Global Engagement Office will oversee and coordinate McGill University’s submission. Collaborative applications involving multiple McGill Faculties are especially welcome.

Key Highlights:
- Eligible applicants: Canadian post-secondary institutions, university consortia, and research organizations.
- Target beneficiaries: Academics, researchers, and graduate students affiliated with Canadian institutions.
- Purpose: To support study and research activities in the Indo-Pacific region, fostering deeper academic ties and knowledge exchange.
- Funding available: Up to $10 million over three years.
- Maximum per project: Up to $520,000.
This program aligns with Canada’s broader Indo-Pacific Strategy and presents a strategic opportunity to expand our institution’s global footprint, enhance research partnerships, and support internationalization goals.
Additional Information
The IPSFC program will:
- Enhance the study and research capacity of Canadians in areas related to the Indo-Pacific Strategy
- Increase connectivity between Canadian and Indo-Pacific institutions dedicated to research and education
- Support new research streams and academic pursuits in Canada on the Indo-Pacific region.
Study or research must be in line with the Strategic Objectives of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, including topics such as:
- Regional diplomacy
- Regional political change
- National and regional security
- Trade and economic cooperation
- Technological innovation
- Sustainable development
- Climate change
- Natural (including marine) resources management
- Applied scientific cooperation
Indo-Pacific Region
Host universities or research institutions must be based in one of the eligible countries and economies in the Indo-Pacific region, as defined by the Indo-Pacific Strategy:
- Southeast Asia: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam.
- South Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka.
- Northeast Asia: Japan, Mongolia, Republic of Korea, Taiwan.
- Oceania: Australia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.
SUBMISSION INFORMATION AND TIMELINE
Applicants should email global.engagement [at] mcgill.ca to receive the internal application form. Once completed, the application must be returned to global.engagement [at] mcgill.ca by July 23, 2025, ensuring that all supporting documents are included.
