Call for Abstracts: Working Papers in Disability Law

Published: 14 November 2022

The Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism (CHRLP) invites McGill students, recent McGill graduates, and law students from other faculties to submit short abstracts of essays or works in progress for presentation at a student colloquium on March 24, 2023 from 16:30-18:30 ET.

The conference, taking place in Chancellor Day Hall, is inspired by the fifteenth anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and part of the Disability and Law Initiative building on work that started in 2012. This event looks back at the last decade and a half with a critical and analytical lens. We ask: What advances have been made? What are some of the lessons learnt? What we should draw from experiences of disability policy, accessibility implementation, and social advocacy moving forward?

Deadline: January 13, 2023

Please submit abstracts using the following form

Keynote speaker: TBC

Submissions: We seek 300-word abstracts of recently completed or in-progress essays that you will present in an 8-minute presentation, either in-person or virtually, the day of the event.  The length for the final essays is 8,000-10,000 words excluding footnotes. Submissions in French and English are welcome. The event will center around accessibility and disability, and we welcome submissions that touch on policy, philosophy of law, and critical discourse on disability.

Deadline for the final submission of selected papers will be May 1, 2023.

Accepted papers will be published in a working paper series on disability and human rights posted on the CHLRP website.
