Alumnus Lawrence S. Bloomberg to receive honorary doctorate at McGill's Spring 2022 Convocation ceremony

To celebrate the Class of 2022, McGill University will award 14 inspirational individuals⁠ honorary degrees — the highest order it can bestow — at the Spring 2022 convocation. Desautels alumnus Lawrence S. Bloomberg, C.M., O.ONT (MBA’65) will receive a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LL.D.) during the Faculty’s ceremony on June 1, 2022.

A distinguished financial entrepreneur and a visionary philanthropist, Mr. Bloomberg is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of BloombergSen Investment Partners and recipient of the 2010 and 2011 Order of Ontario. He has also received The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award.

His engagement and support for research, education, healthcare and culture reflects his belief in Canadian values and confidence in next generation innovators. Mr. Bloomberg is the founder and past director of the MaRS Discovery District, Chair Emeritus of Mount Sinai Hospital, former director of the Royal Ontario Museum and the Toronto International Film Festival, among others. He has served a six-year term as Chancellor of Ryerson University and is a member of the McGill Bicentennial Campaign Committee and of the Medicine Faculty Advancement Board.

As a dedicated philanthropist, Mr. Bloomberg and his family have advanced numerous generous gifts to support Canadian hospitals and universities, including the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto and the Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women’s and Infant’s Health at Mount Sinai Hospital.
