McGill’s Bicentennial milestone is a significant occasion to highlight the importance of collaboration and innovation in sustainability, locally and beyond.

In September, McGill University will be hosting the Sustainable Futures Festival, a week-long series of events that invite the McGill community, as well as partners and guests, to envision a collective future.

Events that McGill community members can look forward to include:

About the Bicentennial

McGill University’s bicentennial anniversary represents a momentous occasion for our community. It is as much a time to celebrate our long history of achievement as it is an opportunity for reflection as we chart the course for our third century.

About the McGill Sustainability Systems Initiative

Shifting to a more sustainable future requires taking a multi-faceted, systems-level approach to some of the world’s knottiest problems. The McGill Sustainability Systems Initiative (MSSI) seeks to mobilize McGill researchers around sustainability challenges and equip the next generation with the skills needed to address these issues. In its novel approach, the MSSI provides opportunities for researchers from very different disciplines to interact and co-design projects that address complex problems from a variety of perspectives. The outcome is a robust and vibrant community of committed sustainability researchers.

About McGill Office of Sustainability

Established in 2010, the McGill Office of Sustainability embeds climate action and sustainability into all of the University’s activities. It engages, supports, and connects students, staff, and faculty by providing strategic guidance and resources to foster a sustainable community.

The Office of Sustainability stewards McGill’s flagship Sustainability Projects Fund, oversees the implementation of the McGill University Climate & Sustainability Strategy 2020-2025, and offers sustainability programming for students, staff, and faculty members.
