Simulation on a Social Mission Virtual Reality (VR) Festival

Monday, June 12, 2023 09:00toThursday, June 15, 2023 19:00

The application of virtual reality (VR) in health professions education, both for teaching technical skills and for broader clinical decision-making, has been a topic of discussion. A less known but emerging area of interest is the use of VR as a medium to witness, or be in the first-person perspective of, a social challenge through immersive storytelling.

Although the use of VR in cognitive and behavioural sciences has been active for decades, increased mainstream attention is now arising on whether VR can raise awareness and improve education on social issues in health professions education.

The Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning (SCSIL) is inviting interested McGill Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) students to register to view curated VR experiences centered on such issues as racism, Indigenous health, and homelessness, to name a few.

You will then be invited to provide a brief audio message with your feedback on: 1) your general impressions on the experiences viewed, and 2) whether you believe this may contribute to health professions education.

This special event entitled Simulation on a Social Mission Virtual Reality Festival will take place the week of June 12 (see dates and times below).

Interested participants can self-register for a one-hour timeslot on the dates below using this VR Booking Page.

There are 60 spots available. Priority will be given on a first come, first served basis.
