Schulich in Concert: Ilimaq
JOHN LUTHER ADAMS
Ilimaq
Ben Reimer, percussion
Ben Reimer takes to the Pollack stage to perform John Luther Adams' Ilimaq, a 45-minute work for solo percussionist that loosely translates from the native Alaskan Inupiaq language as “spirit journey”. Ilimaq is inspired by the Inuit tradition where the shaman rides the sound of the drum to and from the spirit world. In the performance both soloist and audience are immersed in a journey through soundscapes drawn from the natural world, and the inner resonance of the acoustic instruments.
With the safety of our community and our students’ education remaining as top priority, performances will not be open to the public. We thank our audiences for their continued support to our community and our School.
