Title: Virtually free-by-cyclic RFRS groups
Abstract: A group is free-by-cyclic if it contains a free normal subgroup (of possibly infinite rank) with a cyclic quotient. A group G being virtually free-by-cyclic has some strong consequences; perhaps most notably, it implies that G is coherent by a result of Feighn--Handel. In this talk, we will discuss a characterisation of virtually free-by-cyclic groups within the class of RFRS groups, and present some applications.
We will gather for teatime in the lounge after the talk and then we will go for dinner with Sam.
