Principles of Laboratory Radiation Safety
Target Audience: All staff and students required to handle and/or store radioactive materials must follow this course.

Content: Basic radiation physics; Biological effects of ionizing radiation; Sources of exposure; Dose limits; Radiation protection principles; Environmental surveillance and dosimetry; Radiation safety management; Safe laboratory work practices; Emergency procedures; Useful radiation safety formulae and how to receive and transport radioisotope packages.
Certification: A course certificate is presented to participants who successfully complete a written examination.
Duration: 9h00 to 18h00 (9h00-16h00 for the course and 16h00-18h00 for the Exam)
Cost (McGill): Free for the McGill Community (students, staff and faculty).
Cost (Non-McGill): $50 (if paid by PI); $200.00 per person plus applicable taxes for other payment methods.
Examination information: The exam is compulsory for all staff and students under McGill's permit. Course notes, English-French or English-another language dictionary and a scientific calculator are allowed during the exam. The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and lasts for 90 minutes.
