At the end of the presentation, the audience will:
- Describe the basic characteristics, diversity, and clinical relevance of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM)
- Describe the diversity of clinical presentations of pulmonary and extrapulmonary non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease
- Describe current culture-based diagnostic modalities for NTM, their inherent limitations and discuss the challenges in interpreting the clinical relevance of NTM recovered in culture from different specimens
- Describe the basic principle of metagenomic sequencing, its promise and limitations, and application to the diagnosis of NTM disease
